When to start using the Duo Kit

The Duo Kit is designed to be introduced after your surgical dressings have been removed and your incisions are fully healed. For most people, this happens 2–3 weeks post-surgery for smaller incisions, or 6–8 weeks for larger ones. If you're unsure, check with your surgeon at your post-operative appointment — they'll confirm when your scar is ready.

Using the Scar Balm

Before you begin massage:

Your incisions must be fully healed and stable. Don't massage an unsealed scar or a scab. If you're unsure, check with your medical team to confirm your scar is ready.

Massaging too early can reopen the scar or increase the risk of infection — so it's worth getting the green light first.

Application steps:

1. Use once or twice daily. Place a small amount onto your fingertip — just enough to cover the entire scar with a thin layer. A little goes a long way, so be gentle with how much you use.
2. Start gently massaging the balm into the scarred area using steady motions. You're aiming to move the scar and skin itself, rather than just rubbing the surface. Apply firm but gentle pressure — you should see the skin whiten slightly, which tells you you're moving the scar tissue.
3. Work your way across the entire scar and surrounding area for 3–5 minutes. You'll feel the balm melting as it warms against your skin, creating a breathable layer that locks in moisture.

Using the Scar Tape

Preparing your skin:

Make sure the area is clean and dry before applying. If you're also using the Scar Balm, wait at least 6 hours for it to fully absorb into the skin before applying the tape. This matters — the balm needs time to sink in, or the tape won't stick properly.

Application steps:

1. Tear or cut the tape to match the size and shape of your scar. You want enough to cover the entire line, but don't worry about being perfect — this tape is flexible and forgiving.
2. Remove the protective liner and carefully apply the tape along your scar line. Press gently but firmly, and let it conform to your skin. Don't stretch it as you apply — just guide it into place.
3. Leave the tape on for 1 to 7 days, depending on which routine you choose (see alternating routines below for guidance). When you're ready to remove it, peel it away gently. The atraumatic adhesive means it won't hurt or irritate your skin.
4. Fresh piece each time — For best results, we recommend discarding the tape once you've removed it and using a fresh piece at your next application. This ensures optimal adhesion, hygiene, and clinical safety.

The key to success: alternating your products

This is where the real magic happens. The Duo Kit works best when you alternate between the Scar Balm and Scar Tape in a consistent routine. Each product plays a different role, and switching between them gives your skin the best of both worlds.

If your surgeon or medical team has recommended a specific protocol for your recovery, always follow their guidance. If not, we've found that most patients get the best results by using one of these two routines. Choose the one that feels right for your lifestyle and skin sensitivity.

Routine 1: The Daily Routine (switch every 12 hours)

Best for: People with known skin sensitivities or those who want maximum coverage and nourishment.

This routine switches between the tape and balm twice daily — typically day and night.

During the day:
Apply the Scar Tape in the morning. Wear it throughout the day and into the evening. The tape leverages its protective benefits when your skin is more exposed to sunlight, external irritants, and friction from clothing.

At night:
Remove the tape gently. Apply the Scar Balm to nourish and hydrate your skin overnight — this is when your skin best absorbs nutrients and when the healing really happens. Massage it in using the steps above.

The rhythm:

• Morning: Apply fresh tape
• Evening: Remove tape, apply Scar Balm
• Repeat daily for consistent, comprehensive care

Routine 2: The Weekly Routine (switch every 1–7 days)

Best for: People with resilient skin or those who prefer a longer-interval routine.

This routine switches between the tape and balm on a longer schedule — for example, Monday to Friday wearing the tape, then Saturday and Sunday using the balm.

For example, a weekday/weekend cycle:

• Weekday (Monday–Friday):
  Apply the tape on Monday morning and leave it on as long as it remains comfortable — up to 7 days maximum. The tape provides consistent protection and compression throughout your work week when you're most active.
• Weekend (Saturday–Sunday):
  On Friday evening, remove the tape. Massage the Scar Balm into your scar once or twice daily over the weekend. This gives your skin a break from the tape while still supporting healing with nourishment.

The rhythm:

• Monday morning: Apply fresh tape
• Friday evening: Remove tape, begin balm routine
• Saturday & Sunday: Massage Scar Balm daily
• Repeat weekly for balanced, sustainable care

Important: The 6-hour rule

Do not apply the tape directly over the balm. It won't stick properly. The balm needs time to fully absorb into the skin to avoid interfering with the tape's adhesive properties.

If you've just applied the balm, wait at least 6 hours before applying the tape. If you're starting the daily routine, apply the balm at night, let it absorb fully overnight, and apply the tape in the morning.

How long to use both products

Use both products for a minimum of 12 weeks. For best results, continue for up to 12 months. Scars take time to mature, and consistent use of both the balm (nourishment) and tape (protection) accelerates that process.

If something doesn't feel right❗
